Fandom Radio, Thursday, December 2
Good evening, everyone. It's good to be back here with you all, and I hope you're enjoying the... whatever it is that's falling from the sky out there. It wouldn't be right if we started winter off with snow, after all. That's just not how things work around here.
School News
The Famous Shipwrecks of the Deep class talked about the Mary Celeste, which was a ship where all the passengers and crew disappeared. That sounds rather interesting, but none of the boys in class were paying much attention. I wonder if cleaning some dishes this weekend would help. I'll have to look into that.
In Ethics class, Anakin talked about sloth being a failure to use your talents, and the students discussed what they intend to be when they grow up. After class, Kennedy stayed to let Anakin know that she didn't mean to skip out on the droid baby assignment, but she had to leave because a friend was in trouble, which Anakin understood well, since that's a fairly common thing around here. Anakin also asked to speak to Jono about his relationship with Raven, and about dating empaths in general.
In Tracking: Urban v. Wilderness, the students paired up and were given a clue to track down. They got to choose what kind of clue Angua would give them though, so I imagine it might not have been as hard as it sounds. And the Classic American Film class watched a movie that didn't do very well in theaters, while the students feasted on popcorn, as usual.
Over in the library, William was having some tea to keep from falling asleep. Sherlock came to ask William about his investigation, and to tell him to be more suspicious next time. Then Scully and Claudia arrived, and after Scully made sure that Claudia brought waders, they invited William to come with them and Spock into Special Collections, under the watchful and nervous eye of our librarian. Oh, yes, because trips into that place always end well. They'd better come out in one piece or whatever's left of them will have to deal with me.
I had to put Grace to work in my office after she decided to use my desk as a drawing board. In his office, Barney was speaking with a friend about whether or not he should teach next term.
*chittering*
Why yes, I will take some rum in advance of that, thank you. Cindy was doing busy work in her office when Henry came by, concerned about letting the students into Special Collections today. As well he should have been, I'm just saying. Loki was taking a nap in his office hours, because I clearly forgot to put someone noisy next to him. That can easily be remedied, of course. And Kerrigan was using her office time to pick the sugar snow crap out of her hair. I think most people got to waste some time on that task today.
In less grey-hair-inducing news, it was duet competition day at the Glee Club, much to Ariel's excitement. There was PuddiPuddi for everyone, which I'm going to assume is some kind of food, while Quinn and Alexander and Ariel and Ellie made sure they were ready to go. Quinn and Alexander sang "Something Stupid," which turned out to not be stupid at all - the squirrels liked it, at least - and Ellie and Ariel sang "Dancing in the Street." Ariel was around in case anyone had club business to talk about, and Anakin and Deadpool were both there to advise, judge the competition, and continue to make me laugh with their involvement in this particular club. Thank you gentlemen, really.
Dorm News
Kate was cooking up a storm in the third floor common room this morning, making chocolate muffins, coffee, and cake. Percy was surprised to learn that Kate can cook, despite the fact that she's given him food before, and when he asked why she was baking now, she explained that today was her roommate's birthday. That was a nice gesture for him, I'm sure. Peter wanted to know if Kate was being compelled to bake by some force of Christmas - Percy said she was too much of a jerk to be baking for others, and Kate insisted that there was nothing wrong with her, even though it was a little early in the morning to be cooking. Alexander, unlike the others, was very polite to Kate about how good her food smelled, and that earned him a crack at the muffins. See, politeness can be a very good thing. When it comes to your classmates and friends, at least.
Momoko was very excited when she realized the snow was actually sugar, and Karla came by to be excited with her, and to show her how to hang out of the window and catch the sugar in their mouths. I'm going to need a lot more rum at this rate. Jason was picking sugar out of his hair and reading a book of Russian when Nico stopped by, having run out of lives in his video game. Sookie and Bobby celebrated his birthday with presents - the key to Sookie's room and a temporary fingerstache tattoo. One of those seems a lot more important than the other. And Kate did something in her room this evening, but the squirrels got too distracted by rum to write down what she did. That means you have some to share now, so you'd better hand it over.
In the evening, the third floor common room was occupied once again, this time by Effy, who'd ordered a pizza and was watching television. When Cloud came in, he found her watching an action movie, and they discussed how terrible some of them were, especially compared to the far more amazing lives of the real people around them on the island. And down in the laundry room, Kyle was having some trouble keeping the washing machines and dryers from eating his clothing - quite literally, it seems. I'm sure we have a reimbursement form for that sort of thing in the office, for your clothes. I'm not sure what to do about the machines except threaten them with violence and unplugging and taking them apart. For now, at least.
Town News
Millie held a holiday sale at Book Haven, and got a visit from Ino, who chatted with her about the weather. Helen read to the horses at The Gig, Lindsay listened to holiday music at Nast Sporting Goods, Cally had to dust everything at Strokes of Genius after a mishap with her dog, and Ellie was dealing with phone calls and Glee Club choreography at The Arms Hotel. Tara figured out the snow wasn't snow at the Magic Box, and she and Kennedy talked about the sugar when Kennedy came by for lunch. Christian decorated Groovy Tunes for Christmas, and Ino came by looking for books on music. Rikku wasn't happy about the sugar snow at Fixer-Uppers, although Momoko had enough enthusiasm for the both of them, and George was decorating Turtle and Canary for Hanukkah when Ariel came in looking for Puddi, which does indeed seem to be some kind of food. I'm not entirely convinced though.
At the clinic, Scully was studying ageing processes and waiting impatiently, probably for her trip of doom, and at Caritas, Wallace used the sugar snow to make his alcoholic hot chocolate even better. I suppose there's one good use for it after all.
And those are all of the notes I have, so I'm going to sign off before the sugar snow turns into something worse. Have a good evening, everyone.
