Fandom Radio :: Friday, July 24th.
Turtle: Good evening, fellow Fandomites! You're listening to WTFH radio this Friday night or Saturday morning if you're a pod-cast person...
Valentine: ...or Saturday afternoon if you're a late riser...
Turtle: That too! And we'll be late risers, ourselves, thanks to the awesome slumber party that we should get back to, so let's read the notes and get on our merry little way.
Valentine: Sounds like a plan. ...wha...what are you doing, Turtle?
Turtle: Braiding your hair.
Valentine: Uh, why?
Turtle: Because if we can't be at the slumber party thanks to radio, we can bring the slumber party to radio. Besides, your hair is just really long and pretty and soft. Maybe I'm just nostalgic for my own hair, too.
Valentine: Alright, then, here's your news, while Turtle Wexler pets me like I'm a cat, then.
SCHOOL STUFF
Valentine: Hannibal was leading for phys ed again this week, and so I'm sticking by my heart attack theory. We played Wii Boxing. How this sort of technology ended up disappearing in the twenty-second century, I will never quite grasp.
Turtle: It's music and mood day in Music as a Form of Self-Expression, when Miss Upland explained how music can...well, set a mood, and the assignment is to write something to match up a mood with certain pieces. Peyton was there to TA and Priestly noticed she was sad, and there was super major consoling over the fact that her mother's passed on, and, ohmygod, Peyton, I'm so sorry...Robin-the-Frog was TAing, too, and, of course, Lady Glinda was available, too.
Valentine: And in Rangering!, the class discussed the importance of knowing your enemies. Still, there were chances to beat things up with weapons training and sparring. Arthur and Eric were available as TAs, as Minsc and Boo were there as teachers.
Turtle: Fiona was subbing for Strategy Games, where she taught everyone how to play the board game mancala. Which they then played. Obvs.
Valentine: Desmond sent out an email to his class about it being canceled, but gave him some questions as food for thought regarding their vacations. Mitchell was going through magazines, while Durden twitched from too much caffeine. Dr. Brennan was researching, which is no surprise, and the squirrels are happy to report that Ziva is no longer a gazelle, something Gibbs manages to observe, being a trained investigator and all. Stinson needs his stapler fixed.
Turtle: Dirty?
Valentine: I will be shocked and glad for the progress feminism has made in the next one hundred and seventy years if it is. Either way, when his stapler doesn't need fixing, Stinson is breeding fake animals, and Leto stops by to question Stinson's "dump your girlfriends to seem more awesome" philosophy.
Turtle: Yeah, why would he want to dump them all when he can have them all at once?
Valentine: Awww, Turtle Bitchface, I've missed you. You're so cute when you bitchface, Turtle, you know that? So Biff talked by to talk about animal breeding, which naturally leads to talk of new women in town. And Ida's taking down the uber-dorky banner in the office.
DORMS AND CABINS
Turtle: Jaina went out for an early morning run...this morning, and so did Claire, while Fiona is more active in a smaller space, practically wearing a hole in the floor with her pacing. Rose thinks Fiona is giving Zack strategy lessons of the dirty variety, but she better not be! Not until after our date tomorrow, anyway!
...Okay, good. They're not. It's actual strategy. Much better. Not that it's a problem. I mean, it's just a date, but that would seriously be rude to have dirty strategy lessons with one girl the day before a date with another girl. And then Peyton and Fiona demurely checked up on how the other one was doing, saying they were okay when they're clearly not. But I think the emo is sometimes okay.
Valentine: Peter sat on his bed and talked to his boyfriend who is currently a dog, which I hear is going around a lot lately, and then Sam turns back into Sam from being a dog, naked, and so that means he and Peter just went ahead and had sex.
Turtle: It doesn't say anything about sex, Val.
Valentine: We're going to just presume, Turtle.
Turtle: Not everyone just goes and has sex just because someone show up naked in their lap, Val.
Valentine: What a terrible waste of resources, Turtle. Back to the news, Jean and Tybalt doth return from their less than fortuitous occasion of courtship, though Fortuna turns her head and smiles upon the hapless lovers, as they construct other ways cater to the fleeting passing of Chronos...
Turtle: WIIINK wink! Nudge nudge! Know what I mean?
Valentine: I think so. At the Main Campfire, Kate had marshmallows, a fire, and a penguin. Not all being used together, might I add. Joan properly guesses that the penguin is a student, and so now she and Kate can bond over having roommates turned animals. Maron needs a bit more help guessing, so she can gush appropriately.
Turtle: Leto is working with some fancy blades in the salle, and George is very impressed, even if his knives aren't as flashy as Leto's. Merlin just looks at Leto as if his eyes were as big as his ears until Leto finally talks to him and Merlin asks how long it took Leto to learn all of that. Then Karla comes in, promising not to hold it against Leto that he missed last week on account of being a tree, and then they talk about something that even if the squirrels didn't spill rum all over the notes, I'd be discrete about, anyway. Ben's impressed by the blades, too, and is excited that Leto will let him try them, and then he complained a little with Karla about class.
Valentine: Really, Rimmer. Putting a bunch of overly jaded, empathetic, emotionally overcharged space travellers in a room full of polymorphs is not going to be a popular one.
Turtle: Arthur was cooking....rabbit over at Rumor Girl, a rabbit I can only assume was recently all cute and fluffy.
Valentine: And now Turtle's all wibbly. A prince has got to eat, Turtle. Although why his manservant isn't preparing it, I don't know. Dinah isn't even sure there's enough food there to be eaten, and Cute Jack can't help complimenting Dinah's lovely expressions of fatigue. Dinah then checks in on Griff since he looked kind of 'punked' at class. Dinah and Ino talk food.
Turtle: Claudia totes agrees with me that eatting a rabbit from the woods is gross, explaining to Ino about how that's why we have preservatives to help preserve our food now so we don't have to eat little bunnies from the forest. Riggins wonders if Arthur caught it himself, which he did, because they talk about how hunting is good fun, and urg. But at least he's just hunting rabbit, Ino, and not teal deer.
Valentine: I'm sure the conversation between Eric and Arthur about the rabbit's preparation isn't stilted for any particular reason, while it works out that Eric and Ino both can't remember if they've met before, so away with the intros they go. Cute Jack notes that he rarely sees Eric outside of rehersals and offers to change that by rehearsing together more. Griff, aka 'you there' gets a few questions from Arthur about his dropping into some of the salle sessions, while Ino chats with him about how he's not much of a fan of fresh kill, anyway. You There and Cute Jack discuss the inevitable return to the dorms, which, to be honest, I won't mind at all. Oh, and Claudia succinctly informs You There that eating cute things is gross.
Turtle: That Claudia. Smart girl. The fashion must be insanity. They do say genius and insanity are often two sides of the same coin.
Valentine: That they do. Cute Jack and Arthur talk of the drawing power of fire and the weird power of the island.
Valentine: Anyway, there was also, of course, the big slumber party in the Wendy the Werewolf Stalker cabin, and it was a very good success and is still going on.
Turtle: It better be, so we can get back to it when we're done here! There was a ton of mingling and chatting, because that's what you do at a slumber party. Karla talks to Hinata about how she's been quiet and keeping poor Yei away from kitten adoration, while Leda compliments Yei on the cute human she's got there. Flirting with Hinata. Does it say anywhere in the notes that Hinata wound up dying of shyness?
Valentine: I think a death would have been a pretty big party stopper, Turtle. Karla and Rachel talked about how, if there was a party, then Karla must definitely be having fun. Obviously. No doubt about it.
Turtle: Hinata striked up a conversation with Rachel...yay, Hinata! Keep up the social! Claire showed Karla pictures of Jon being a dog, Leda asks about the DVDs she's brought, while Claire and Kate caught up on the singing and the boyfriend puppy stuff. Karla and Kate officially meet, while Karla and Maron catch up and Maron apologizes for not being around much. Karla offers Yuffie a snack and she's glad for the open invite, while Claire learns about Yuffie's recent animal adventure.
Valentine: Karla thanks Emma for the help with everything, and Shilo assures Karla that she can help consume the food. Maron and Shilo discuss the singing before talking about boys. And Karla and Alex's introduction leads to talking about the Magic Reserves.
Turtle: Alex and Harper are then all "Yay weekend! Yay slumber party!" Karla then offers Tara some treats before they get down to some serious magic business, and then Tara strikes up a conversation with Kate. Agnes inform Tara: "No running away!" Ino promised Karla that she won't take up too much room, and they make possible plans for some other parties in the future. You guys know I'll help with anything, right!
Valentine: Amy tells Leda about the booze and ribbons she brought...
Turtle: Amy?
Valentine: Yes. Amy. Agnes asks Karla about her customary 'kiss kiss' greeting, and then wonders if Layla knows where the fun will end. Maybe in her chat with Karla. Who knows. Dinah comes in with the hair stuff and chats with Claire about their weeks, and she notes that Karla looks pretty de-stressified. Emma assures Dinah that the real fun doesn't start until all the good boys and girls are asleep.
Turtle: Hinata tentatively considers taking to some of Dinah's hair stuff, while Harper and Karla discuss how it's about time for something like this, and Karla just hopes it lives up to the buzz Hoshi mentions hearing about it. Hinata then tells Hoshi about how Karla's holding Yei hostage. Karla introduces herself to Naomi, and then talks with Ellie about all the delicious food, much of which I helped provide from Turtle & Canary.
Valentine: I was wondering when you'd fit an ad in there, Turtle. Maron and Morgana talk about Morgana's br--
Turtle: Don't say it!
Valentine: bright good time so far, Turtle. Karla apologizes for missing Support Services, and Leda tells Morgana about how she likes the cabin, even if she didn't like the show it's named after, and then Morgana asks Dinah if she really has to dye her hair. Leda brought some fortune cookies and shared them with Karla, and then I talked with Karla about how everything really seemed like a success. I also talked to Maron, who asked if I knew anything about any specific kind of glitter leading to boykissy.
Valentine: I wonder if we could recruit some of the boys for an experiment like that...Karla was also eager to feed me; a way to a person's heart is often their stomach. And I encouraged Maron on her heartfelt contributions to glitter science, before chatting with Emma about the necessity of coffee in such things. And rum. Leda wonders if Triela brought any party favors, but she's only brought herself. I'm sure that's favor enough, Triela.
Turtle: There was plenty of food and drink, and Karla compliments Shilo's drink tastes. Maron tries to get Kate to guess what she has and, here's a hint, it's not a pony. Emma informs Layla that she shouldn't limit her trouble, while Ellie and Hoshi talk about the party being a hit.
Valentine: A few brave souls dyed their hair, and I am sure that, eventually, there will be massive crashing, too.
Turtle: If anyone's asleep when we get back, Val, let's draw faces on them with marker.
Valentine: Let's not, because they'll know we did it thanks to this.
Turtle: ...good point.
ALL AROUND TOWN
Turtle: Valentine was reading at Japhrodite's store, because she's a neeerd--
Valentine: Would you rather I talked about some of the other things at the store, Turtle?
Turtle: Okay, Valentine was reading at Japhrodite's store because she's a smart lady, and Miss Davis was fawning all over the baby colt at the Gig before conducting some business regarding the new little animals. And Agnes assures people via sign that, yes, the magic stuff on sale at the Magic Box really is magic. Otherwise, it's a really stupid name for a store if it isn't, you know? And Leto stops by to visit Irulan, making fun of her for singing, but he was a freaking tree, he's got no room to talk.
Valentine: A questionable item found in the pockets of a pair of trousers leaves Harper thinking twice about rooting through items at the resale shop, while a cunning plot on Miss Connell's behalf saves her from a TV remote war at the hotel, where Reese also checked out since she's got an apartment. And, at the medicine shop, Arya was busy with inventory.
Turtle: Mmmm. Inventory. Detective Reese settles into her new apartment and seems to resolve not to spend too much time in her study; I'm not sure if this was before or after she was welcomed to the craziness by Sergeant Kowalski at the Trooper Station. That, however, was before Detective Constable Day got all excited because Sergeant Kowalski called Trooper Ralph Ralph.
Valentine: At the book store, Liir got a visit from Rachel who tells him about the slumber party--
Turtle: *sigh* Rachel. You don't tell boys about slumber parties, that's just asking for trouble!
Valentine: And Rose and Jaina are picking out nail polish for pedicures at the spa and, not surprisingly, Jaina fails at getting the whole relaxing and not caring if you're late thing. Deadpool and the mayor...
Turtle: That sounds like a sitcom or something.
Valentine: It should be. Anyway, they're pondering a trip to New York. Instead of watching Are You Smarter than a Fifth Grader. The squirrel felt that was important. And then Turtle's favorite D.C. seemed to have a romantic evening planned, yet seemed surprised when Reilly showed up. Still, he had something he wanted to talk to her about, and then there's tea.
Turtle: Well, she is British. Tyler was doing some late night weight rounds at Atlas Gym, where Mr. Stark tracked him down and wondered if he was going to move in; Tyler wonders if they had plans. Apparently, they plan on hanging out at the gym. And talking about some project he put Val's little brother on and all the Fight Club drama llamas. Guuuuuys. Talking about fight cluuuuuub. Sigh.
Valentine: Did you just...say 'sigh'?
Turtle: Shut up, Val.
Valentine: It's my job here not to, Turtle. Back to the news, Jean and Tybalt engage in a courtship ritual at the the movie theatre, where he doth have a minor difficulty in properly locating the popcorn, in regions where Lady Jean doth not appreciate roving adventures exploring.
Turtle: You mean...
Valentine: For all the listeners at home, Turtle is indeed making a gesture I'll liken to checking melons for ripeness and hopefully you get the idea. But that's nothing compared to the scandal Jean feels in discovering exactly what this movie does with pie. We've got a few films like that at the store, too, I think.
Turtle: Which we don't need to hear about. At the Freelance Police, Mister Sam and Mister Max are not only hiring, but they're very good at making it look like they haven't been in at the place very often. There was some air guitar from Miss Graham at Guilty as Charged, and, of course, we had our Support Service meeting in the part, although it was only Morgana leading it since Francine is awaaaaay. But we still had treats, even if they weren't cookies. Everyone who was there showed up and definitely couldn't turn down J,GoB pastries even if they weren't Francine's cookies. Layla and I talked about how it's important to know everyone, while Hoshi and Robin-the-Frog talked about how it kind of sucked not being able to help with the zombies. Then we settled in to share notes about some of the weird things this island has thrown at us, because knowing what we've been through better prepares us for what we've still to endure. Hoshi was helpful in informing Claire that the whole future kids thing is so not just a story here. Nothing is just a story here. And Morgana was around if anyone needed her.
....
....
...nothing about breasts, Val?
Valentine: It's just not the same without Francine's there, too. Anyway, at Caritas, Chuck was making Tino really earn his paycheck, and I don't, surprisingly, mean that in a dirty way. Effy easily chose alcohol over slumber parties, although the two don't have to be mutually exclusing. Chuck is then assured that his compliment to Miss Price will get him everywhere...including discussing island weirdness survival tactics. With Biff, he discusses strategies on hitting on and picking up chicks on Facebook, including fake profiles for the clingy ones, and Biff and Barney realize that commisserating over their fake animals' sex lives is a really sad way to spend a Friday evening, so they try to make their own better with a game of rock-paper-scissors to see who gets to hit on Price. And Peyton talks to Chuck despite the fact that she apparently hates Chuck. Now why would anyone hate Chuck?
Turtle: Gee, I wonder.
Valentine: I find him very personable.
Turtle: Yeah, you would.
Valentine: Anyway, the notes are done. Shouldn't we be heading back to your cabin and talking about this over you doing my nails?
Turtle: Ooooh, we should! Good night, Fandom, and have a prosperous tomorrow!

Valentine: Desmond sent out an email to his class about it being canceled, but gave him some questions as food for thought regarding their vacations. Dr. Brennan was researching, which is no surprise, and the squirrels are happy to report that Ziva is no longer a gazelle, something Gibbs manages to observe, being a trained investigator and all.
