Fandom Radio, Tuesday, August 26th
Hello, Listeners new and old! Cecil here, with all the news from the first day of classes! If it's your first day ever of classes here, welcome to Fandom! All the rest of you, welcome back! Unless you didn't leave, of course, in which case, hi!
Classes yesterday started with Technology and You, which met in a Danger Shop verions of a computer lab to talk about the kind of technology they'll be covering. They did introductions and talked about what technology they know already, then turned on the laptops to see how far they could get on an internet scavenger hunt. Neat! Edward asked if Nathan had figured out the Internet, but he hadn't. Kitty asked Edward how he was doing, and he got her to walk him through the steps, and then she checked up on Nathan and explained how internet addresses work.
Public Service met at a Danger Shop version of the Edge, which the squirrels stress is a place, not the one from U2 - you mean he's not a place?
*chittering*
They say no! Okay. Anyway, Reno told the students to going to come up with something to give to Edge as a class by the end of the semester. They asked questions, but not about the music. Karina wanted to know how people are still alive and why they're still there, Minako about water supplies, and Anders about doctors. Barry - who made a great little sibling, and i bet he's making a great big sibling now! - asked what the number one need is, and what contaminating the water, and Kathy listed the city's basic needs. Then they discussed their ideas and voted. And after class,
Karina talked to Reno about putting in extra time, because some people love that extra credit!
After that, How to be a Hired Gun met, also in the Danger Shop, in a prairie where the teacher, Jayne - but he's not a woman - told them they were going to be shot at. A lot of the students got a bad feeling about that during the lecture, but then they were all busy running and having people shooting at them. Ugh, right? I hate when that happens.
Face got told to keep moving and snarked back a lot, Mara got complimented on her use of terrain when she took cover, and Edward climbed to a roof and got told that being shot at builds character - which it does, but that still doesn't make it exactly fun. Then again - this is school, so. Jayne - who isn't a woman - got pissed when Loki took a selfie - oops, probably no phones allowed in class - and then got surprised when Eleanor teleported over to grab one of the guys shooting at them. Because apparently that's not a thing where he's from. Don't worry, there's always some adjustments for everyone! For me it was librarians. Sparkle, summing up the class, said he hated this school and flipped Jayne off as he ran away. And Raven turned into a tortoise, which really confused the teacher. Loki picked her up, which really, is the middle of class the time for that? But still, yay! I hope I get to report on the date. And also they both agreed they liked Thor's class better.
Meanwhile, over in the dorms Celia was sprawled out on her bed looking at electronics catalogs, when Eleanor stopped by and they talked about how weird modern technology is, and about those things that nobody actually makes calls on any more but that are still called phones. I think it's because of science! But I'd probably have to ask ♥Carlos♥ to be sure.
And in town, Hatter was at Cafe Fina with tea and copies of the Alice in Wonderland books, when Mara showed up and asked if she should seat herself. Hatter told her she could, or he could get up and show her to a table. No word on which she went with.
And at the Devil's Nest, Jack (the male one) had a half-off special for new teachers. Jayne - who isn't a woman - wondered if he needed some sort of proof that he was a teacher to get the special, but he didn't, and then he talked to Jack - still not female - about some of the island's weirdness before asking for a margarita. Derek wasn't terribly impressed with getting his water for half-price, so Jack gave him a quarter, and then they got to talking about baking, and how Jack's no good at it. Jayne - also still not female - was confused about why anyone would order water in a bar, but Derek told him that he found the drinks there to be pretty weak.
And it looks like that's it for the news for the first day of school! Once again, welcome everybody, and thanks for coming! Radio would be a lot more boring without people to talk about. I'll see you again next week, of course, but until then, I leave you all with the weather!
[OOC: OMG sorry about the late! Entirely my bad - got home after midnight, completely spaced on what day it was.]
